802.11i Earns 3x More Votes Than WAPI

March 15, 2006
Internet

The China Broadband Wireless IP Standard Group says that it will raise an appeal to the International Standard Organization (ISO) for the unfair treatment that was given to China's WAPI during a recent vote on standards.

During the fast track ballot, the WAPI standard gained eight votes and the Intel-supported 802.11i standard earned 24 votes.

The China Broadband Wireless IP Standard Group strongly condemned IEEE and its agents for spreading untrue information to misguide the public during the voting process saying that it has caused bias and prejudice to China's WAPI standard.

Before the voting deadline, the China Broadband Wireless IP Standard Group had issued a circular called "An Emerging Warning to the Immoral Behaviors Of IEEE" to ISO/IEC headquarters and each of the member countries, requesting ISO/IEC to take immediate measures to correct the unreasonable conduct in the voting process and prevent IEEE802.11i from becoming an international standard.

The China Broadband Wireless IP Standard Group says that WAPI is an advanced, safe and reliable security solution, while 802.11i has many security flaws.
