Shanghai's municipal government says it will spend two years to build a three-tier electronic waste recycling network system with a separate recycling center in each of its districts.
The three-tier recycling network refers to 272 waste receptacle stations across the city (first tier), sub-stations for each trade association (second tier) and micro-stations at each district and county level (third tier).
Shanghai yields about 200,000 tons of e-waste each year. A recycling center in the city's Baoshan District is currently being debugged and it is expected to be put into full operation in the second half of this year.
