Of the 250 million mobile phones that China exports each year, 95% are made by international mobile phone manufacturers.
This information was released during last week's China Mobile Phone Industry Development Summit Forum 2006, held in Beijing.
Chen Wenjing, a deputy director from the Ministry of Commerce, and Cheng Xiusheng, director from the State Council's Development and Research Center, both expressed their concern over the critical situation that China is facing in exporting its own mobile phones.
Chen said that Chinese mobile phone manufacturers still lack a spirit of innovation, so it is difficult for them to easily adjust to global trends.
Cheng Xiusheng said the government needs to work out a series of measures in support of the domestic mobile phone manufacturers to guarantee that they can hold a certain export proportion in the market.
