Midea Group has announced plans to cut up to 10% of the jobs in its washing machine and refrigerator sectors in China.
This has been another large-scale layoff since it cut 40% jobs in its electric appliance division in June 2008. This displacement will reportedly involve 600 to 800 employees in the washing machine and refrigerator departments, mainly covering administrative staff, management staff and professional technicians.
Fang Hongbo, CEO of Midea Group, told local media that the layoff may involve 8% to 10% employees of these departments. Fang says that the company has been making personnel adjustments from time to time and the persons graded at the bottom in the performance evaluations will be laid off from their positions first. At the same time, the company will hire fresh graduates to stabilize its staff structure.
