The General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of China disclosed that from March 1, 2009, six categories of products must be affixed with an energy efficiency logo and those that do not meet the relevant energy efficiency standard must not be produced, sold or imported into China.
According to the fourth issue of the "Catalog of Products Applying Energy Efficiency Logo" jointly released by AQSIQ, China's National Development and Reform Commission and the Certification and Accreditation Administration of China, the catalog contains six kinds of products such as variable speed air conditioners, multi-connected air conditioning units, electrical water heaters, household electromagnetic cookers, computer monitors and photocopiers.
AQSIQ says that products delievered out of the factory before December 31, 2008 can delay the adoption of the energy efficienty logo to March 1, 2010.
According to a representative from AQSIQ, the China Energy Efficiency Logo Management Center has conducted research on such products as electrical fans, electrical cookers, computers and microwaves and prepared to adopt the energy efficiency logo on these products. A detailed plan is expected to be released in the second half of 2009, with the expectation of applying the rule on over 20 kinds of products before 2010.
China began to implement the energy efficiency logo principle on March 1, 2005. Until now, more than 800 enterprises have registered to adopt the logo for over 50,000 types of products.
