The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has published a report on China's telecom industry for the first ten months of 2008, which says from January to October 2008, China's telecom industry realized revenue of CNY679.79 billion, a year-on-year increase of 8.1%.
The report says the business volume of China's telecom industry was CNY1.85 trillion in the period concerned, increasing 22.5% year-on-year and the fixed assets investments in this sector was CNY185.05 billion, increasing 9.9% year-on-year.
Revenue from the mobile phone sector was CNY372.65 billion, a year-on-year increase of 15.7% and the revenue accounted for 54.8% of the total revenue of China's telecom industry; revenue from the data traffic business was CNY66.02 billion, a year-on-year increase of 38% and the revenue accounted for 9.7% of the total income; revenue from the fixed-line business was CNY143.32 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 7.9% and the revenue accounted for 21.1% of the total; and revenue from the long-distance phone business was CNY96.85 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 6.1% and the revenue accounted for 14.2% of the total.
The number of fixed-line users in China decreased 14.199 million from a year earlier to 351.437 million; the number of personal access phone system users decreased 10.559 million to 74 million; the number of mobile phone users increased 79.959 million to 627.265 million; and the number of the Internet broadband users increased 15.8 million to 82.214 million.
In addition, in October 2008, the number of newly added phone users was 1.507 million. Of which, the number of mobile phone users increased 3.219 million while that of fixed-line users decreased 1.712 million.
