TCL Group has published a notice stating the group has invited Dr. Charles Yang to be its vice president to be in charge of the brand business for TCL's mobile communications sector.

According to TCL's financial report for the third quarter of 2008, TCL Communication's sales in the overseas markets accounted for 82% of the total sales of the company while its sales in the domestic Chinese market accounted for less than 20%. To enhance the revenue of its mobile phone business in the Chinese market, TCL Communication published a notice at the end of November 2008 to appoint Wang Daoyuan, former executive director of the company, as new CEO for TCL Communication. Its former CEO Liu Fei was appointed as brand business president for Alcatel. As for the brand business of TCL, the company would select another proper person.

Dr. Charles Yang, who has been CEO and president for Dopod Communication, is sometimes referred to as the "father of the smartphone" within the industry. He contributed much to the launch of the next-generation open wireless Internet terminal, Dopod 686.
