Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited announced the launch of two new thematic indices targeting artificial intelligence and semiconductors, alongside a licensing deal to introduce a mainland-listed exchange-traded fund tracking the AI benchmark.
The HKEX Artificial Intelligence Index and the HKEX Semiconductor Index expand the exchange operator's proprietary index series, providing institutional and retail investors with benchmark tools to track key regional technology sectors. As part of the rollout, HKEX executed a licensing agreement with China Southern Asset Management Co., Ltd. to issue an ETF in mainland China tied to the new AI index.
HKEX Group Chief Information Officer Leung Chung Kwong noted that artificial intelligence and semiconductors have become primary drivers of global growth and industrial transformation. Leung emphasized that the partnership with China Southern Asset Management will help broaden investment options while boosting liquidity and market depth across Hong Kong and mainland financial ecosystems.
The move represents HKEX's ongoing strategy to diversify its index product suite and strengthen cross-border market integration, allowing international and domestic investors greater exposure to Asia's emerging technology supply chains.
