Chinese mainland telecom equipment maker Huawei has submitted applications to the Taiwan government to set up a new subsidiary in Taiwan.

According to reports in Taiwanese local media, the new subsidiary aims at enhancing cooperation relationship between Huawei and the Taiwan industry chain. This move makes Huawei the first mainland telecom equipment maker that has applied for the establishment of a subsidiary in Taiwan.

Huawei's agent in Taiwan revealed that the company has submitted the applications to the Investment Commission of Ministry of Economics Affairs of Taiwan. It is also said that once the subsidiary is approved, Huawei may further set up a research and development center, or even a procurement center in Taiwan.

To date, Huawei has established research and development centers in the U.S., Russia, Sweden, Nanjing, Shanghai, and Beijing. Taiwan has outstanding technical personnel and is an ideal place for Huawei to set up its research and development center, said Lu Kui, general manager for Huawei's agent in Taiwan.

Lu also said that the establishment of Huawei's Taiwanese subsidiary will help the company enlarge cooperation with Taiwanese manufacturers and shorten its supply period. The subsidiary will serve as a communication platform to integrate the resources of Huawei and Taiwanese manufacturers more smoothly. Moreover, Huawei is optimistic about the Taiwanese market and the subsidiary will better serve its important clients in Taiwan.
