Mobile Video Gives China Unicom More 3G Users

Chinese telecom operator China Unicom published its financial report for the third quarter of 2013 and stated that its operating revenue reached CNY75.9 billion, a year-on-year increase of 19%; and its net profit reached CNY3.06 billion, a year-on-year increase of 51%.

During the third quarter of 2013, China Unicom gained about 12 million new 3G users. By attracting 3G users to download games and videos, China Unicom successfully expanded its operating revenue and achieved better performance than its largest competitor China Mobile in the third quarter.

Prior to this, China Mobile announced that the company's profit decreased by 8.8% year-on-year in the third quarter of 2013, failing to meet the expectations of analysts.

By the end of the third quarter of 2013, China Unicom had 111.6 million 3G users in total; while China Mobile had 169.5 million. For the overall user group, China Unicom had 272.8 million mobile phone users; while China Mobile had 755.2 million.
