American beverage provider PepsiCo Inc. and Chinese B2C e-commerce website JD.com have reached a strategic cooperation under which PepsiCo will sell its Quaker high-fiber oat dairy drinks in China for the first time on JD.com.
This is reportedly the first time for PepsiCo to launch a product debut via an e-commerce platform outside America. Financial terms of the deal were not released.
Quaker is a well-known oat brand which was acquired by PepsiCo in 2001. The newly launched Quaker high-fiber oat dairy drinks have two flavors: original and nut. According to PepsiCo, the new products were developed in China with oat from Australia and a milk source from New Zealand.
Starting from August 17, 2015, the new Quaker high-fiber oat dairy drinks are on sale exclusively on JD.com for two months.
Mike Spanos, president and chief executive officer of PepsiCo Greater China, said that with the continuous economic growth in China, consumers demand more for healthy nutritious dairy products. It is a key growth strategy for PepsiCo to enter the Chinese dairy drink market, which will bring new opportunities to the company.
