Qualcomm announced the official opening of its new company Qualcomm Communication Technologies (Shanghai) Co. Ltd.

Located in Shanghai Waigaoqiao Free Trade Zone, the new company will cooperate with Amkor Technologies, a world-leading semiconductor packaging and testing services provider, to implement a new semiconductor manufacturing testing business.

This is reportedly Qualcomm's first semiconductor manufacturing test facility in the world. The new company will focus on chip and system tests and it will expand to wafer tests in the future. By combining Qualcomm's engineering technology advantages with Amkor's testing experience, the new company will become an important link for the manufacturing distribution and semiconductor business operation system of Qualcomm. It expects to shorten the time to market and improve product quality and cost efficiency.

Frank Meng, chairman of Qualcomm China, said that the integrated circuit industry is one of the important marks to measure a country's industrial competitiveness and comprehensive national strength. The establishment of the manufacturing test facility in Shanghai represents Qualcomm's long-term commitment in China and shows its determination to improve Chinese manufacturing distribution.

Capitalization and business license details of the new Qualcomm company were not immediately available.
