Chinese B2C e-commerce group JD is heading to Shaanxi Province in central China to begin roll-outs and development of unmanned delivery of e-commerce purchases to consumers.

JD signed a cooperation agreement with Xi'an National Civil Aerospace Industrial Base to build JD Group's largest comprehensive smart logistics industrial base.

According to the agreement, JD plans to invest CNY20.5 billion to implement an in-depth cooperation with Xi'an National Civil Aerospace Industrial Base over the next five years.

JD will establish three headquarters, three platforms, and four major industries. The three headquarters include JD's global logistics headquarters, global unmanned system industry headquarters, and JD cloud's Shaanxi big data operating headquarters. The three platforms include a fusion smart logistics platform, a flight transport platform, and a big data operating platform. The four major industries cover smart manufacturing, smart logistics, cloud computing, and "characteristic town".

In regards to the global logistics headquarters, JD Group will use the technology, airspace, and talent resources provided by Xi'an National Civil Aerospace Industrial Base to establish a smart logistics industry center which integrates modern logistics businesses such as warehousing, distribution, settlement, big data, and cloud computing.

For the realization of its unmanned system industry center, the two parties plan to complete the organizing of an unmanned system research and development team by the end of 2017 and gradually implement the building of an integrated testing system, covering drones, unmanned cars, and unmanned warehouses.

For the operating center of JD cloud, the company will build a smart city ecology supported by cloud technologies and driven by big data; and it will have four major systems – platform, data, ecology, and network.
