Alipay recently published an announcement, stating that to continue to provide better quality services to users, Alipay will start charging fees for credit card payment service from March 26, 2019.
It is said that Alipay will offer a free-of-charge quota of CNY2,000 per person per month; meanwhile, the part exceeding CNY2,000 will be charged with 0.1% service fee. Users can also use Alipay member points to exchange more free-of-charge quota.
Commenting on the change, Alipay said that it attributes to the fast increase of comprehensive operating costs. By adjusting credit card payment service rules, they mean to reduce certain cost pressure.
Prior to this, WeChat payment also started charging fees for credit card payment service. The company said that there is payment channel handling fee behind each payment. To provide certain free-of-charge product experience to users, the company had been inputting costs for handling fee subsidy.
