According to Jurgen Model, president for Siemens Mobility Greater China, the company is considering building a 5G research and development center in China, which will focus on road traffic.
Model revealed that Siemens Mobility made this decision about three weeks ago and it is still undergoing planning. Premised on 5G technology, the R&D center will take traffic management system and autopilot as its core contents.
The company has not yet decided the location and Model said it might be in Suzhou, Chengdu, or any other city.
It is said that Siemens has accumulated manufacturing and digital business experience in Suzhou and Chengdu. Chengdu has Siemens' digital plant and it is also the location of intelligent manufacturing innovation center and industrial software global research and development center; while Suzhou is the low voltage business manufacturing research and development center of Siemens.
Model said that the final site selection depends on talent recruitment and market size.
