The Chinese female tennis player Peng Shuai accused the retired Politburo Standing Committee member and Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Gaoli of sexual assault on the full moon. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) confirmed the second call with Peng Shuai. The IOC statement stated that 35-year-old Peng Shuai looked safe and sound, and the two parties agreed to hold a “private meeting” in January 2022. The statement emphasized that the International Olympic Committee believes that “silent diplomacy” is the most effective way to deal with such humanitarian issues.
