The People’s Bank of China is expanding testing of the digital yuan (e-CNY) ahead of the Olympic Games to be held in China next month. Although the digital currency has made a good debut in content stores, and online wallets for storing and interacting with it have become widespread, the actual number of transactions carried out using e-CNY is not so impressive. The reason for this is that the digital yuan is still limited to the 10 major cities participating in the e-CNY pilot project.
