The Chinese municipality of Tianjin has kicked off trials for the use of the digital renminbi in the local district of Hexi. On 14 April the Hexi district authorities held an official ceremony to mark the launch of local digital renminbi trials. The trials have already seen the deployment of the digital renminbi for payments purposes at multiple commercial sites within the Tianjin city district, as well as its use for offline payments. Big state-owned bank China Construction Bank (CCB) is playing a key role in the trials, with the provision of both technical systems as well as user resources.
