Daniela’s fiancé, Holden Karnofsky, also lived in the group house. Karnofsky was the founder of a philanthropy that promoted effective altruism, a movement that was one of the first communities to take the potential power, and danger, of AI seriously. Through Karnofsky, Brockman became interested in some of the ideas behind effective altruism.
