Four years since the rollout of 5G in India, telecom service providers and government officials have failed to garner mass demand for the technology. Earlier industry conversations around 5G monetisation have fizzled out with service providers now considering generic use-cases like fixed wireless (FWA) and 5G slicing to keep the technology profitable. Prior to the 5G rollout in 2022, the Department of Telecommunications had initiated meetings with 14 Indian ministries to explore 5G use-cases in India.
