Chinese police have made a significant move by arresting 16 individuals suspected of hacking drone systems in China. The arrests were conducted as part of a nationwide crackdown on illegal drone use initiated by China's Ministry of Public Security. The ministry disclosed details of 10 cases on Monday to alert the public about the consequences of illegal drone activity.

The suspects were apprehended between January and March in connection with using technical methods to assist others in circumventing drone altitude restrictions and no-fly zones. The Ministry of Public Security accused the suspects of engaging in illegal profiteering, disrupting airspace regulations, and endangering both public safety and national security. This crackdown is part of the broader "Clean Skies" campaign launched in December to address the growing concern of unauthorized drone operations.

One of the notable cases occurred in Shanghai, involving more than 100 drones, while the smallest case comprised only 10 drones. Authorities in Shanghai discovered that the main suspect in the largest case, a 40-year-old individual named Li, had been developing software to evade drone restrictions since 2022. Moreover, Li was actively promoting this software on various e-commerce platforms, exacerbating the issue of illegal drone activities in the region.
