KATHMANDU, Jul 18: Nine people, including two Indians and two Chinese nationals, have been arrested in Nepal for alleged involvement in a series of theft and looting incidents, police said today.
The arrests were made in Gandaki province's Kaski district, according to a statement issued by the District Police Office.
The Indian nationals arrested were identified as UP-resident Rahul Nishad, 23, and Somnath Jadav, 40, a resident of Maharashtra, police said. Apart from them, two Chinese nationals and five Nepalese nationals were also arrested.
Those arrested were involved in at least six incidents of theft and looting in Pokhara city, a major tourist hub of the Himalayan nation.
Police recovered nine mobile phones, a smartwatch, a laptop and 1.394 tola of gold ornaments (approximately 16.26 grams of gold) from their possession.
A case has been initiated against them under the Anti-Theft and Dacoit Act, and further investigation is underway, police said. (PTI)
