Baidu Disciplines 41 Personnel in Quarterly Anti-Corruption Sweep Across Cloud, Autonomous Driving Units

Baidu Discipline

Baidu Inc.'s internal ethics committee disciplined 41 personnel during the third quarter of 2026 for commercial bribery and expense fraud, referring multiple individuals to law enforcement as China's technology giants maintain strict zero-tolerance policies against internal corruption.

The internal announcement, distributed to all employees of the Chinese search engine company on Oct. 9, detailed cases spanning several core operational divisions, including the Mobile Ecosystem Group, the AI Cloud Group, and the Intelligent Driving Group. According to the company disclosure, the violations fell into two primary categories: leveraging corporate positions to secure improper financial gains, and falsifying operational records to misappropriate company funds.

The disciplinary sweep covered full-time staff, former employees, outsourced contractors, and an intern. Fifteen individuals implicated in severe violations were turned over to public security authorities for criminal investigation, while others were terminated or returned to third-party staffing agencies.

Key departments impacted by the investigation included the university cooperation team, regional sales offices, the Xiaodu hardware sales platform, and autonomous driving engineering units. Within the Intelligent Driving Group alone, nine third-party contractors were returned to their staffing vendors after internal auditors uncovered systematic expense padding and falsified receipts.

The quarterly purge reflects an ongoing industry-wide effort across China's technology sector to strengthen corporate governance and eliminate operational bloat. Over the past several years, major Chinese internet conglomerates have empowered internal ethics committees to root out kickbacks, commercial bribery, and vendor collusion. By extending audits to third-party contractors and entry-level personnel, technology firms are signaling that compliance oversight applies to all tiers of the contingent and permanent workforce.

The third-quarter disciplinary actions follow a broader annual report released by Baidu in April, which revealed that the search and artificial intelligence giant disciplined 144 employees for misconduct throughout 2025, with 33 cases referred to judicial authorities for prosecution.
