3G Wireless Looking Up?

June 8, 2004
Editorial Staff

The People's Daily is reporting that prospects for the development of the third generation (3G) of the wireless telecommunications industry are becoming clearer as telecom operators and equipment suppliers worldwide continue rolling out business strategies and reaping benefits.

Big returns from 3G are expected to begin to catch on, with participants at last week's Fifth IMT-2000 Mobile Telecommunications International Forum in Beijing showing greater confidence in the progress of 3G worldwide. Business opportunities in 3G are pending, however, as 3G "will take some time to get here" because there are still some issues that need to be addressed.

Issues concerning 3G standards, its market, and its applications as well as network migrations are what concerns the industry the most.
