More than 2,000 workers and over two dozen heavy tower cranes are operating in around-the-clock shifts at the Foxconn Industrial Internet Phase II smart manufacturing hub in Ganzhou, as developers push to meet key production deadlines.
The massive Foxconn industrial development represents a total investment of approximately 13.1 billion yuan (US$1.8 billion). Spanning 442 acres with a total floor area of roughly 520,000 square meters, the facility will primarily manufacture high-precision components, including smartphone screens and casings. Once fully operational, the project is projected to generate 30 billion yuan in annual output value.
Located in the mountainous southern region of Jiangxi Province, Ganzhou serves as a critical geography in China's industrial and economic strategy. Historically recognized as a gateway connecting inland China to southern coastal provinces like Guangdong, the prefecture-level city anchors the "China Rare Metal Valley", which is the global epicenter for heavy rare earth mining and processing. As Beijing shifts its economic priorities from basic mineral extraction to higher-value supply chains, Ganzhou has transformed into a high-tech manufacturing corridor critical to the production of electric vehicles, robotics, and advanced semiconductor infrastructure.
The sprawling buildout reflects the complicated cross-strait realities of Foxconn, formally known as Hon Hai Technology Group. While headquartered in Taiwan, the multinational giant maintains a massive footprint and a deeply rooted financial stake in mainland China, where its sprawling factory complexes anchor local economies. Despite geopolitical friction and a gradual push by Western companies to diversify tech supply chains out of China, Foxconn remains the chief manufacturing partner for Apple, depending heavily on the mainland's unmatched manufacturing clusters to build and assemble the bulk of the world's iPhones.
According to project head Zhang Shuiming, the structural framing of two factory buildings was completed in late May 2026, and interior masonry work is currently underway. Two additional factories are scheduled to top out by the end of June. Total structural construction for the phase has reached 70% completion.
To maintain the aggressive timeline, project builder Ganzhou Industrial Control Group established a dedicated task force to streamline approvals and resolve logistical bottlenecks. Construction teams have synchronized labor and machinery deployments to continue work through public holidays, utilizing continuous shift rotations to minimize downtime between construction phases.
Despite the accelerated schedule, project managers emphasized to local Chinese media that quality and safety standards remain uncompromised. The construction site has implemented a multi-level inspection system to maintain end-to-end quality control across all workflows.
To manage rising summer temperatures in China, developers have set up an on-site medical clinic, distributed heatstroke prevention supplies, and instituted regular health checks and adjusted working hours to protect field personnel.
The construction team plans to coordinate structural completions with the immediate installation of mechanical and electrical systems to transition the site into a benchmark smart factory. Once fully operational, the Phase II project is expected to accelerate digital and intelligent upgrading across local supply chains, providing a significant boost to Ganzhou’s high-quality economic development.
