President Donald Trump has trolled Iran leaders with a photo of what he called the ‘Trump Strait’ shortly after he reportedly rejected a seven-day ceasefire deal.
According to the Wall Street Journal Trump turned down a proposal that included Iran reopening the Strait of Hormuz and resuming nuclear talks. He is believed to have told aides that he expects to continue bombing the country after the midterms in November.
About half an hour after the news broke, Trump took to Truth Social to share a picture of the 'Trump Strait,' evoking shades of how he used his presidential power to rename the Gulf of America and Lake America. However, Trump is reportedly skeptical about Iran meeting his demands and has reportedly told staff that another bombing campaign is likely slated for after the midterm elections, the outlet reported.
The nature of the renewed strikes on Iran remains unknown, with the US' diminishing reserve munitions being taken into consideration after months of war in Iran, according to the Wall Street Journal.
It comes after Trump told Xi Jinping that Chinese help for Iran was “totally unacceptable” during their summit in the United States this week, his ambassador to Beijing said on Friday.
This week Trump also promised to campaign in 35 of America's most competitive districts. Donald Trump is kicking off his latest round of rallies in two Republican strongholds as his party faces his declining popularity.
The US President's next two rallies will instead take him to Alabama and Oklahoma – two states where he can expect a much warmer reception. It will come as little surprise if Trump is met with cheers from his loyal supporters, with both rallies offering enthusiastic crowds.
Trump is set to hold rallies in Durant, Oklahoma, next Thursday and Mobile, Alabama, on Friday. Organisers claim the locations will also help reach voters across state lines, although the announcement comes as the party directs the final stretch towards states considered strong Republican.
The White House has been approached for comment.
