Oki Electric Industry Co., Ltd. announced that it has opened two new offices in China for its semiconductor business to enhance customer support and marketing activities.

The two semiconductor offices are located in Beijing and Shenzhen, which brings the total to four semiconductor offices in China, following those in Shanghai and Hong Kong. With the two new offices, Oki aims to reach a target of 50 billion yen for its semiconductor sales in China by the fiscal year ending March 2006; a three-fold increase from that of sales in the fiscal year ending March 2004.

The new office in Shenzhen is the Shenzhen Rep. office, as part of Oki Electronics (Hong Kong) Ltd., and the office in Beijing is the Beijing office, as part of Oki Semiconductor Shanghai Co., Ltd.'s regional office. Because it is located in an area where Oki customer's development and manufacturing divisions concentrate, Oki will correspondingly strengthen its customer support and marketing activities.

Oki has been expanding sales in the Chinese market particularly in LSIs for personal handy-phone systems and mobile phones, as well as memory chips for electronic dictionaries and toys. In May 2004, the company announced a sound generator LSI for the Chinese market that mounts 13 types of Chinese traditional instruments, which has been acquiring many customers from mobile handset manufacturers.
