Amit Midha, chairman for Dell Greater China, has revealed at Dell China's performance communication meeting for the second quarter of 2012 fiscal year that due to the growth of its large enterprise business unit and public utilities business, Dell China's revenue increased by 20% during the reporting period.

Of that total, the revenue from Dell China's large enterprise business unit increased by 22% year-on-year, but Midha did not disclose the detailed amount.

Midha said over the past quarter, Dell's operating revenue from Asia Pacific and Japan increased by 17% year-on-year to USD3.2 billion. The revenue growth was mainly contributed by the 38% growth of server business; 23% growth of IT consulting service business; 12% growth of storage business; and 20% growth of desktop business.

Midha revealed Dell's large enterprise business unit in Asia Pacific saw 15% increase year-on-year, of which the growth reached 22% in China and 20% in India. Meanwhile, revenue from the public utilities business saw 13% increase year-on-year, and China, India, and South Korea were the major contributors. In addition, the revenue from media- and small-sized enterprise business increased by 11% and the consumer business increased by 27% for the Asia Pacific region.

Statistics showed that China has become an important driving force for Dell's growth in Asia Pacific. Over the past three quarters, the revenue of the Chinese market maintained a quarterly growth of over 20%.

According to Dell's financial report for the second quarter of 2012 fiscal year, its overall operating revenue reached USD15.658 billion, an increase of 1% compared with the same period of last year; and its net profit reached USD890 million, an increase of 63% compared with the same period of last year. At the same time, Dell lowered its performance expectations for the 2012 fiscal year.
