Chinese technology group Lenovo announced the formal completion of the Lenovo (Western) Industrial Base in Chengdu.

The new industrial base was reportedly put into trial production and will start volume production from April 2012. Over the next five years, its production capacity will reach ten million units. Combining manufacturing, research and development and sales operation, the industrial base will make desktops and laptops in the initial stage and will further extend to Lenovo's other products in the future. The research and development center of this industrial base will focus on sectors like mobile Internet services and applications; mobile Internet service platform construction; high-reliability system reinforcement technologies; and laptop and other mobile Internet devices.

Yang Yuanqing, chairman and chief executive officer of Lenovo Group, said that the completion of Lenovo (Western) Industrial Base will further optimize the global supply chain, research and development, and sales system of the group. It marks an important step for Lenovo's global strategic layout. The products developed and manufactured in the new industrial base will not only be provided to the Chinese market, but also will enhance the company's leading position in the worldwide market.

On October 29, 2010, Lenovo Group and the municipal government of Chengdu signed an agreement, under which Lenovo promised to initially invest over USD100 million to establish a more complete information technology industry chain in Chengdu alone with its partners.
