Chinese Government Denies Hacking Charges

In response to an American security organization's accusation that China's military has recently launched worldwide online attacks, China's Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang has said his country is not behind recent Internet hacking and cracking stunts.

"Work units and individuals are not permitted to use the Internet to be engaged in illegal activities or commit crimes," Qin said.

Qin added that China has laws that make tampering with or cracking a computer's code illegal.

Qin also challenged groups around the world to provide details and information about the supposed hacking attempts.

Alan Paller, the director of the American-based SANS Institute, says that recent hacking attempts have been traced to Guangdong province. Paller says because the attacks showcase much discipline and expertise, he surmises it can only be the Chinese military behind the attacks.
