Chinese domain name registration institution China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC) has launched a special service for government departments to register their own Chinese-language domain names.

The service, Government Bodies and Undertaking Departments Domain Name Registration Network, will be responsible for handling the application of Chinese domain names from government departments. So far, it has initiated Chinese domain names for 50 government departments including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Personnel.

CNNIC says already more than 5000 government bodies and provincial departments have submitted applications for registering Chinese-language domain names with the service.

CNNIC says it will take measures to preserve and protect the names of these government departments.
