UTStarcom, Inc. today announced that it has signed a contract valued at approximately $40 million with China Telecom to expand existing deployments of its IP-based PAS (Personal Access System) (iPAS) system in 10 cities in the Guangdong Province.

"Guangdong Province is the biggest provincial telecom market in China, ranking as the top market for both fixed-line and mobile operators in subscriber base and revenue," said Simon Le, senior vice president of sales of UTStarcom China. "For the first two quarters of this year, the total number of PAS subscribers on UTStarcom's networks increased 77 percent. This contract will respond to the explosive growth and robust demand we're seeing by expanding both the capacity and coverage area of our networks in one of China's more affluent and populated provinces."
