White House opposes Intel plans to increase chip production in China

According to Bloomberg reports, the US presidential administration is challenging Intel’s efforts to accelerate chip manufacturing in China. The company previously planned to start producing silicon wafers at its Chengdu plant by the end of 2022. However, Intel’s plans were “strongly discouraged” by White House officials due to potential security concerns. Since Intel needs to get government funding to ramp up production, the administration has some weight on the company’s next steps.
