Mobile phone manufacturer Bird has invested CNY300 million on developing 3G mobile phones in order to seize the best opportunity upon the issuance of 3G licenses in China.

To this end, Bird has submitted an application to the Ministry of Information Industry for a TD-SCDMA testing mobile phone license.

Wu Liyao, director of Bird's Engineering Department, says that Bird has developed three types of 3G mobile phones based on China's national 3G standard (TD-SCDMA), of which two have already passed the internal test of MII and are being tested in the trial network of China Mobile, China Netcom and China Telecom.
