Taiwan media reports that Chunghwa Telecom, a main telecom service provider in Taiwan, has exempted some of its affected customers from paying their Internet service fees for December.

Lin Renhong, deputy general manager of Chunghwa Telecom, says that 80% of the damaged cable has been repaired and the communications between Taiwan and mainland China, the U.S., Japan and Europe has resumed, but it will still take 2-3 weeks before all the activity can resume to normal.

It is estimated that the earthquake has caused a total loss of over TW$150 million. Chunghwa Telecom is the largest telecom operator in Taiwan, providing such diversified services as fixed telecom, mobile communications and digital communications.
