Global IT giant IBM (IBM) has announced plans to set up an IBM China Channel University to provide channel training service for its partners in China.

IBM said it would invest an estimated US$10 million this year in support of the operation of the University.

Following the release of its new channel strategy in 2006, IBM has recruited more than 1300 partners from 300 cities in China. The company says it will focus on deeper penetration of the market this year. Apart from enlarging the investment in products and services, it will further explore business opportunities in third, fourth and fifth tier cities with its partners.

IBM China Channel University will consist of six academies. The president of the University and directors for each of the academies will be selected from IBM Greater China's top management. The courses will cover basic technology, sales and marketing skills and managerial and leadership skills.
