The EU has filed a WTO complaint against China over 5G patents

According to the European Union (EU), Chinese courts limit European patent owners from pursuing legal action to defend their intellectual property. In most cases, any business that makes use of another company’s patents is required to pay a fee as compensation. There are no restrictions on the use of patents that are important to industry standards like 5G under FRAND agreements. Since many Chinese firms are exploiting mobile patents without permission or payment, the European Union claims that many of these companies are preventing the parent companies of the patents from getting royalties or any payments at all.
