American Multiplexer Corp. announced today that it has completed localization of eFotoXpress in Chinese to prepare for distribution into the Chinese Market.

The company has been actively negotiating distribution into China. Since most software in the Chinese market must be in Chinese, eFotoXpress will make this release sometime next week. Testing of the software utility is currently being conducted in English. The final distribution agreement with the largest software distributor in Chinese is expected to be completed by the middle of March 2004.

efotoXpress is a software utility that uses wavelet compression technology and the new JPEG2000 standard to easily compress very large images so that they may be sent by e-mail without any loss in quality. eFotoXpress is the first product that uses the new JPEG2000 standard so that compressed images may be sent via e-mail. New eFotoXpress features include encoding voice with the images so that the recipient can now listen to voice messages as well as view text along with photos. eFotoXpress is a boon to the over 148 million digital camera users in the US and beyond because it is able to compress very large images (from 80m) to small images (to 60K). eFotoXpress can also substantially reduce storage costs up to 80%. Large images can be saved in smaller sizes and archived.

The eFotoXpress product is an easy-to-use photo utility that compresses images with highest possible efficiency. The digital images can be sent to many different recipients with one click of button. This product is designed to compress any high-resolution JPEG images from different digital cameras, scanners and camcorders. eFotoXpress works with many email utilities, such as Microsoft Outlook, Yahoo, and Hotmail. This utility will allow digital camera users to send more digital pictures over the Internet at a greater speed through the use of highly integrated compression technologies.

The Joint Photographic Experts Group (JPEG) has approved the next standard for image compression, known as JPEG2000, based on wavelet compression algorithm. The new standard offers great flexibility and allows images to be stored, accessed, edited and transmitted compactly and efficiently. It provides a new framework to better address increasing needs for compression and functionalities for still image applications such as printing, digital photography, scanning, mobile applications, digital library, and medical imaging.
