Extreme heat wave in China shuts down semiconductor factories and lithium processing

A record-breaking heat wave in China forces microchip factories and EV metals processing plants closed for six days. The historic heat wave causes drynessughts in southwestern Sichuan province and reducing hydropower generation. The dry conditions have put pressure on the region’s power grid, but have also affected the supply of raw materials such as polysilicon, lithium and aluminum, all critical components used in EVs, according to Bloomberg.
