Bird Might Fly With Dopod On High-End Mobile Phones

Yang Xingping, CEO of Dopod, has told local media that Xu Lihua, president of Bird, is negotiating with Dopod on possible cooperation for the creation of high-end mobile phones. Both Dopod and Bird are top domestic Chinese phone manufacturers.

Yang disclosed that the two sides might cooperate on sales channels and brands because these are mutually beneficial. Analysts regard Bird's sales channels as the better of the two, while Dopod's brand is more famous.

Bird has already developed a high-end mobile phone called DOEASY, but due to its lack of brand recognition, the product has not been well received by consumers. So Bird may hope to make this product a success by virtue of Dopod's brand awareness, and might agree to make it an affiliated product of Dopod, if necessary.

In addition to Bird, Changhong has also turned its eyes to the high-end mobile phone industry. But Yang says Dopod won't be content with being acquired or having its stock controlled by others. However, he does not deny to local media that Dopod might allow other enterprises to buy part of his equity.
