Consumer Advocate Sues For Telecom Logs

January 12, 2005
Editorial Staff

China's most famous consumer advocate, Wang Hai, has sued China Netcom for not providing itemized call logs to fixed-line phone users.

When comsumers pay their phone bills at the end of each monthly cycle, an itemized list of phone calls made and received is difficult to obtain for fixed-line users. Mobile phone users have long had this option, but fixed-line users usually do not have this option.

Wang Hai says Netcom is "trespassing on users' right of acknowledgement" to see the list of calls made in the previous month and that according to the Consumer Protection Law, Netcom is obligated to provide the logs.

Netcom says it is not able to currently provide this service because of infrastructure limitations.

There is no word yet on when the judgement will be made.
