China's State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT) has issued a circular, approving "30MHz~3000MHz Ground Digital Audio Frequency Broadcasting System Technology Standard (DAB)" as the industry standard for China's radio, film and television industry.

A representative from SARFT says the DAB issued this time is mainly for providing high quality digital and audio program to portable mobile devices. The representative says DAB is related to international standards used in the market.

Wang Guoyu, CEO of Xi'an Xixin Microelectronics Company which specializes in DAB, says this standard is actually paving the way for mobile phone television trial operation and preparing for national mobile phone television standards which will soon be released.

SARFT has not yet said whether this DAB standard will include video frequency programs.
