PlanGraphics, Inc., has been awarded a US$2.1 million contract to assist in building an urban management information system (UMIS) for the Liaoning Provincial Government in northeastern China. Liaoning is the most urbanized province in China and a major center of industry.

The PlanGraphics team will prepare a full-scale UMIS for the city of Shenyang, as well as simpler systems for the cities of Panjin and Yingkou. The project also includes an urban management information system to be used by the Provincial Construction Bureau. The implementation will rely heavily on geographic information system (GIS) and Internet technology.

"The Liaoning UMIS project presents many challenges from an institutional and organizational point of view," said Minna Li, PlanGraphics' vice president for international business. "However, with PlanGraphics' 24 years of experience in dealing with large system development issues, we are confident that we will be able to provide high quality services to the client cities and agencies."
