Ericsson has signed a US$56 million contract with Guangxi Mobile Communications Company Limited (Guangxi Mobile) for the expansion of their GSM network in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
This is the second expansion contract awarded to Ericsson by Guangxi Mobile during 2003. Under the contract, Ericsson will provide Guangxi Mobile with GSM network equipment to help further enhance its network performance and capacity. Nanjing Ericsson Panda Communications Company Ltd., the largest joint venture of Ericsson in China, will provide the contracted equipments.
"We are honored to be selected once again as Guangxi Mobile's partner in its GSM expansion," said Jan Malm, President of Ericsson in China. "With our long-term strong cooperation with Guangxi Mobile and our leading technology and solutions, we have been dedicating ourselves to support Guangxi Mobile to build a mobile network into the future, ensuring our customers a clear competitive edge in the market. We are committed to the development of mobile communications in this region, and will continue to support our customers to meet the communication needs of end users."
Ericsson began its work with the Guangxi mobile market in 1992 when Ericsson helped deploy a TACS network for Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region as the only equipment provider for the area. For years, Ericsson has been a major provider of GSM/GPRS network equipment for the region.
