ZTE Selects Mindspeed's Lower Power and Complexity 32-Port Processor

Mindspeed Technologies Inc., a supplier of semiconductor solutions for network infrastructure applications, today introduced the industry's most highly integrated and power-efficient 32-port single-chip IMA processor for access concentrators, digital subscriber line access multiplexers (DSLAMs), third-generation (3G) wireless networking equipment, multi-service platforms and T1/E1 and DSL line cards.

Mindspeed's 32-port M28529 IMA processor is used to provide bandwidth between T1/E1 and T3/E3 speeds. Consuming 40 percent less power than any other 32-port IMA solution on the market, the M28529 processor also is the most highly integrated solution of its kind to include 512 Kbytes of on-chip memory that surpasses the standards requirements of 25 milliseconds of differential delay compensation. This eliminates the need for an external memory device, which saves cost and board space.

A complete Transmission Convergence (TC) block provides Utopia 2 or serial line connectivity to T1/E1 framers and DSL transceivers for each link. The combination of a Utopia interface on the physical layer (PHY) side, and the ability to deliver the industry's highest data rates per link makes both the M28529 and the 16-port M28525 processors ideal for DSL applications. Mindspeed's third generation of IMA devices include a field-proven, comprehensive software package. The inclusion of integrated memory, low power consumption and comprehensive software support is particularly important in wireless network infrastructure applications.

These features led ZTE Corp. to select the M28529 processor. ZTE is China's largest listed telecommunications equipment provider specializing in offering customized network solutions for telecom carriers worldwide. The M28529 processor gives ZTE the flexibility to develop IMA-32 line cards for both radio network controller (RNC) and core network (CN) equipment, in either wideband code division multiple access (W-CDMA) or CDMA2000 networks.
