According to reports in the media, Legend Group is in the process of developing technologies which could be used to enhance computer security after being appointed by the Chinese government to draft a national standard for computer security chips which would be used on computer motherboards, the first draft of which is expected later in 2004.
"We are participating in the development of security technology for computers and we hope this participation can contribute to the standardization of security technology in China," said Angela Lee, a spokeswoman for Legend.
Security chips for PCs are just one of many areas of technology for which China is seeking to develop national standards, with the most prominent being the creation of a national standard for wireless LANs (WLANs) which relies on a Chinese-developed security protocol called WLAN Authentication and Privacy Infrastructure (WAPI).
