Tata Consultancy Services Ltd (TCS), India's top software company, has shifted the focus of its China business from partnership with IT companies and regional outsourcing business to China's domestic market.
TCS started out in partnerships with multinationals, mostly IT giants such as IBM, Hewlett-Packward and Oracle with which TCS has a global partnership. It then shifted to a software outsourcing business in Japan and South Korea. TCS planned to use its China operation, together with local resources, as a springboard, but the company is now eyeing the nation's domestic market.
TCS entered China by establishing its China subsidiary, Tata Information Technology (Shanghai) Company, in 2002. Meanwhile it has an office in Beijing and a research and development centre in Hangzhou. TCS in China focuses on the finance, telecoms, manufacturing and logistics sectors in China. In banking and telecoms, TCS now has partnership with Chinese IT firms including Pansky Technology Group, Global Data Solutions and Zoom Software Technologies Company.
