A virtual network for internal control has commenced in Beijing to monitor all the bank automated teller machines (ATMs) across the city. Those ATMs have been connected to the network to allow police online access and monitoring of each cash location.
The network enables police to respond quickly once some emergency occurs at a monitored location.
In the past it would take 14 days and 1260 checks by a human being to check all the ATMs in Beijing, but now only one police officer can conduct many checks in one day.
It is expected that by 2007, all the key areas in the city will be connected to the network. Those areas include the coal industry locations, transportation hubs, and national defense installations.
