Samsung's largest mobile phone production base, covering an area of 65,000 square meters, has been completed in the Tianjin TEDA Micro-Electronic Industrial Park.
Monthly capacity of Samsung's production lines will double, rising above its national peers, with the new facility.
Over the past few years, Tianjin Samsung Telecom Technology Co., Ltd.'s mobile phone sales have continuously increased. In 2003, Samsung Telecom's revenue exceeded CNY7 billion, making it Samsung's global mobile phone production base. In 2004, it produced 14 million varying types of high-end Samsung mobile phones.
In 2004, annual mobile phone production in Tianjin reached 49.5 million units. During the next several years, Tianjin's mobile industry will enjoy more substantial development. It is forecasted that by 2010, over 80 million mobile phones will be produced in Tianjin and the output value from the electronic information industry will exceed CNY300 billion, thus laying a solid foundation for China to become the "Mobile Phone Capital."
The Tianjin Economic-Technological Development Area (TEDA) was established in 1984, upon the approval of the State Council of the People's Republic of China. It was one of the first state-level economic and technological development zones in the country.
