Latest statistics from the China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC) shows that by the end of July 2005, .CN domain name registration in China had reached 720,000 and surpassed Japan's .JP domain registration of 630,000 for the first time.
Starting in 2004, China has been reducing the registration fee for .CN and made it cheaper to purchase a .COM top-level domain name.
In addition, the Chinese government has offered more policy support for .CN registration and simplified the registration procedures. Foreign registrars are also able to register domain names for people living outside of China.
Many China-based Internet experts believe that .CN domains are vital to China's national network safety, so developing and using it in large scale will help promote the popularity and applications of the Internet.
